It is plain that Canada needs to privatize the Canadian Pension Plan; we are an aging society and the obligations that accompany this plan are becoming such that our society will soon be hard-pressed to meet the needs of aging Canadian citizens. With that in mind, it is appropriate that Canada look at privatizing the current system. In fairness, the Canadians have actually moved somewhat in that direction already via the creation of the CPPIB or Canada Pension Plan Investment Board; this entity is run at arm’s length from the Canadian government and is showing itself to be quite an effective national pension plan – even if the very fact that it is a national pension plan clearly makes...
