We Need Changes to Same Sex Marriages
Linda and Tina both suffered from tragic love affairs where their husbands had cheated on them, but they met at a party where they fell in love with one another. They lived in a relationship with one another for several years, when Tina developed AIDS. Although Linda and Tina had planned to marry, the state of Illinois did not allow lesbian marriages. After the death of Tina, Linda was left homeless because the state of Illinois allowed Tina’s family to inherit the estate of Linda’s. Linda and Tina are one example of same-sex couples who struggle because they often have no rights after the partner dies and they are discriminated because many states do not allow marriages of same-sex couples.
