Due to its unique history, cultural make-up and recent trends in commerce, immigration and globalization Canada today is faced with a unique set of adult education issues. Several general trends have merged over the past ten years that have expanded or brought attention to these issues. (1) Historically, Canada was home to a set of varied indigenous peoples that included a range of languages and cultures, which were discriminated against and thus are now in danger. (2) Canada was colonized by people from two different European cultures. They spoke two different languages, practiced different religions, settled in different parts of what is now Canada but are both central to literacy in the nation....
