What is a sign? How does the Chapter of Joseph show the meaning of signs and the primary need for food? When taking a look at the Quran, different chapters show how Allah has provided the physical and spiritual need of food because food is a primary need of mankind. The beginning of Surah Yusuf/Chapter of Joseph shows how Joseph was given a sign that showed him that Allah would take care of the family’s need for food. Throughout the Chapter of Joseph, the plan of Allah to take care of the physical need of food for Joseph’s family is shown.

Dreams and signs are given in the Quran to help followers to understand that indeed Allah does provide physical and spiritual food. The story of Joseph shows how Allah gave him a sign as a child that Joseph did not understand. The story of Joseph shows how Allah provided for Joseph even though Joseph suffered bad times. The Book of Joseph shows that Allah did take care of Joseph’s physical needs for food and that Joseph’s sign given as a child had purpose in providing food.
