Introduction to the Gallery
The Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) was founded in 1931, and, according to its website, was primarily focussed at that time on the acquisition and curation of “few Canadian works and a strong emphasis on British historical painting” (VAG 1 para. 9). It has since, in its own estimation, moved towards the preservation of Canadian and local British Columbian works. The gallery has come to represent the most significant displays of art within the city of Vancouver, and is host to a number of different travelling exhibits from around the world.
