The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann Summary of the Case In 2007, a couple, Kate and Gerry McCann, were on vacation in Portugal with their three young children. The McCanns, British nationals, were staying at a resort apartment complex with twin babies and a toddler, Madeleine, who was just shy of her fourth birthday. On the evening of May 3, the couple decided to dine at a restaurant just outside the apartment where they were staying, and instead of taking their children with them or hiring someone to look after them, the children were put to bed and left alone. If this is the case, in all probability, the mother would have been the culprit. This is surmised only because it seems that if the father had been the guilty party, the mother would not support him in covering up any wrong doing. However, a man is more likely to support his wife if she is responsible for the death of a child. (Probably what happened in the JonBenet case.) What is highly suspect is the parents left the children alone when babysitting services were available. Why? There has been no satisfactory answer to that, which leads one to think they are covering up something.
