The Concept of Body Image Introduction Body image is a multidimensional concept but basically refers to a mental picture of the body as well as the feelings associated with that picture ( Odoms -Young, 2008). The concept of body image includes body size estimation, assessment of body attractiveness, and feelings that are linked with the body’s shape and size. When concerns about body image emerge, they are invariably linked with three issues: emotional distress, low self-esteem, and high risk of developing an eating disorder ( Cortese & Falissard , 2010).
