The authors of the title paper look at the prevalence of reactive attachment disorder among looked- after children Scotland. The looked- after children included children in the foster care and those in intuitions for child care. In the introduction, the authors note that the reactive attachment disorder has been recognized as a disorder in child behaviour in early 1990s. As such, it is a relatively new and poorly researched disorder. The children affected by this disorder are commonly severely abused and/or neglected children....

environment, but a child with RAD may not be predisposed to receive this” (
Milward
et al., 2006, p. 278). This is particularly a problem in cases when a child already affected by this disorder enters foster care. Another issue stems from the poorly understood and researched treatment. There is little practical evidence that any treatment used today is actually helping in treatment of reactive attachment disorder. However, the authors conclude that the most powerful agent for innovative way of treatment of this disorder can be foster care.
