Abstract
In a recent review of the Press Gainey patient satisfaction surveys and the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) score, the management team of the Memorial Hospital Miramar identified that more than 70% of respondents, with an issue of pain stated that their pain was not treated appropriately. Further review of the emergency department (ED) statistics disclosed that the greatest number of patients returning to the ED within 48 hours of being discharged were patients with an initial complaint of pain.
