Excerpts from the Paper
The beginning:
Racial Disparities in the Criminal Justice System
The proportion of non-whites in the criminal justice system is not representative of proportion of non-whites in the U.S. population. In 2000, non-whites who were 25% of the population made up 57% of the people in jails and 75% of the prison population (Primm, Osher, & Gomez, 2005). The increase of non-whites in the prison system is inconsistent with the overall population growth in the country (Primm et al.). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the racial disparities and available mental health services in the criminal justice system. Included in this paper are recommendations for public policy to address the racial disparity.
