Psychological Impact on Parenting Styles Introduction There is a great deal of controversy regarding parenting styles. It is generally argued that there are four types of parenting styles. These parenting styles are: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and indifferent (Benson and Haith 282- 283) A number of writers and researchers have made arguments in favour of one type of parenting style over another. These writers and researchers argue that parenting styles have a major impact on the psychological well-being of both the child and the adult that they will become.
