Dear Editor:
I am a nurse in Canada who recently has become aware of an alarming shortage of nurses in clinical practice. I have been researching and studying the nursing shortage in Canada and I am astounded about this issue since nurses have such a significant role in health care and it appears that the situation is not being fully addressed. The purpose of this letter is to inform the public about the current nurse shortage in the Canadian health care environment and to discuss the myriad of factors that influence nurses to withdraw from their profession or to migrate to other countries to pursue their career. I believe that there has to be a turnaround in the health care system in Canada to prevent the danger...
