Human beings are a part of the ecosystem like any other organism. The fact that we are a part of an ecosystem means that we ultimately have to deal with the same limitations. For example, all ecosystems have carrying capacities. Carrying capacity is defined as, “The maximum number of individuals that the resources in a particular environment can support”(

1998: 704). Human beings use the resources in our environment at such a high rate that we are always approaching the upper limit of our environment’s carrying capacity. However, the use of technology allows humans to artificially raise the carrying capacity of the environments that they live in.
