Executive Summary
As a player in the oil and natural gas industry, EnCana faces extensive challenges in the external market place and in the legal and political sector. With the changing nature of the energy industry and shifts in the international economic environment, companies like EnCana must keep abreast of sustainability and community development requirements now set into play by governments world wide. Internally, the company has strong financial holdings, but EnCana is currently attempting to restructure its financial holdings in order to optimize spending. The end:

Nonetheless, as the company faces more difficult natural gas locations in which to extract resources, their differentiating factors, namely their sustainability record, may become harder to maintain. The company has begun to work in partnership with First Nations communities, but doing so in a more substantive way may help to further differentiate EnCana from companies like Imperial Oil and Shell who have been known to have a debilitating impact on communities as a whole.
