Introduction
The treatment of Maria showed that the company profoundly underestimated the value of diversity. Williams (2005) argued that if you destroy diversity “you destroy a varied world” (p. 102). The viability of the workplace was negatively affected because of the reduction of diversity incurred by not promoting Maria. From a philosophical or political standpoint, the absence of diversity that Maria would have brought to the position pushes management perspectives into narrow confines.
