This paper compares the Canadian Revenue Agency with the United States Internal Revenue Agency. The focus shall be upon the organizational structure of each, the accountability mechanisms that are in place, staffing (size, principally), and how they interact with elected officials such as Parliamentarians or members of Congress. In general, the main thing to be taken away from all of this is that both organizations or agencies do the same basic tasks – except that they organize their constituent parts somewhat differently and except for the fact that the Commissioner of the IRS is not a sitting member of congress like the Minister of National Revenue.
