The North American population is aging rapidly so that as never before large numbers of older adults can achieve quality of life through cognitive training interventions. Mental stimulation and cognitive training are to the benefit of the health care system which with the nursing shortage cannot meet the needs of numerous older adults who are experiencing cognitive decline (Vance & Webb, 2008). Research indicates that cognitive training can improve and maintain cognitive function in older adults in terms of memory, speed of processing, and reasoning ability, all of which decline with age.
