Boycotts and Consumer Capitalism A Critical Analysis Introduction The issue of the constraints of consumerism, and the exercise of consumer power through the boycott or similar act of agency on the part of consumers, is one of the more contentious debates in contemporary business and civil society. This essay will explore both the theory and the practice of consumer resistance and protest. The thesis will be argued that while there exists the possibility of successful consumer acts of agency, the exercise of consumer power is defined by the fundamental structure of consumerism.
