This paper will look at how Walmart uses benchmarks to access the logistics function within its organization and will examine ways in which this benchmarking process can be improved to effect better logistics performance within Walmart. The paper will suggest that given the position that Walmart holds as a domestic and global retail leader, benchmarking might become routine because competitors are so far behind Walmart’s own performance, so Walmart needs to add variables that will allow it to not become complacent and to maintain its position as a domestic and global retail leader.
