Alcohol abuse causes a death in the U. S. every 22 minutes. During any minute on U.S. highways there is one person out of fifty who are driving. Out of that one in fifty one in ten are drunk. Alcohol is also involved in 34% of all murders in the U.S. It has been reported that half of the rapes committed involve alcohol use by the attacker (“The Impact of Alcohol Abuse on American Society”, 1994).
Children aren’t safe from alcoholism and alcohol abuse. Mothers who are convicted of child abuse are three times more likely to have been diagnosed as alcoholics while ten times is the rate of fathers diagnosed with alcoholism.
