Most university students are presumably aware that inadequate sleep is very bad for one’s health: it can cause nausea, cognitive impairment, increases the stress upon the heart, aggravates fatigue, and heightens stress. What many students might not realize, however, is that inadequate sleep can result in depression, in hypertension, in slurred speech, and in tremors – in addition to sparking heart disease. At the same time, insufficient sleep can cause people to fall prey to hallucinations and lab rats denied sleep in experiments ended up dying within a matter of weeks (SleepDeprivation.com, 2010).
