YOUR LATEYour late, what's your excuse this time? No, no I don't want to hear it you can tell me later in detention, sound familiar? Well to half the students in my school it does. That was the usual answer that teachers distribute when students are late to class, which is permissible, but what about what about when your late to home room? Well before you answer that let me explain to you what home room is. Home room is a classroom where a group of pupils must report before and sometimes for an afternoon class. Now nowhere in that definition did it say that home-room served any academic purposes, so then really why are students punished for being late to a class that means absolutely nothing to us and can't be used on our college application towards any credits? This is a question that has perplexed me ever since classmates and headstrong teachers came face to face with the realization of how students felt in having to be on time to a class that really shouldn't even be considered a class. Home-room should be considered a study hall but not a class. I have realized that teachers have a plan already figured out to know who's already going to be late for home-room even before it starts, well at least in my school they do. First they stand outside the class room to see who's talking and who's in school so far |
